They sang the famous “ together“Unthinking Youths”by Achille Lauro, a young pupil from our school, Pierluigi Salomi, and his mum Daniela.
All eyes in the great Oxford family were indeed glued to the TV to savour the performance that was broadcast on Canale 5 in prime time during the broadcast Io Canto Family hosted by Michelle Hunziker.
Pierluigi has demonstrated what we know well about him, because even as a child, he began his educational journey at the IH Oxford Lecce International Montessori School: the passion for music, first of all, which adds to that for the Mathematics – as he was able to make clear to the well-known Mediaset presenter –“for Geopolitics”Pierluigi Salomi flashed his most brilliant smile on the Canale 5 stage, talking before his performance about his role of responsibility, which is that of Mayor of the Boys and Girls of the City of Lecce. “A constant commitment that champions the demands of us young citizens who want a clean, participatory city where we can live in safety.”explained Pierluigi, who is currently attending the final year of lower secondary school at our Institute.
By his side is his mother Daniela, who follows him with care and attention in the difficult task of mothering, finding a balance between youthful enthusiasm and life commitments, for a son who always proves to be a volcano of ideas and interests.
And then it's time for music where mother and son captivated with the notes of a Beautiful song like the one Achille Lauro wore at the last Sanremo Festival.
The Oxford family was moved and touched in front of the TV, proud to have made their small contribution to the growth of a young man.
A great moment of sharing and recognition for the commitment shown throughout the academic year that concluded last June. This is how the awards ceremonyCertificates for the courses organised by the’International House Oxford Lecce for the 2024/2025 period at the Best Western Leone di Messapia Hotel & Conference in Lecce.
For the courses Young Learners, Teens e Adults It was a well-attended ceremony, where the participants were able to see their work recognised.
Two ceremonies, one for the younger ones and one for the older ones
The director of IH Oxford Lecce, Emanuele Sponsiello, welcomed families with their children and teenagers, as well as individual students who have invested in their language training.
During the two moments the ceremony unfolded, first for the youngest and then for the older ones, the headmaster explained the Guidelines that IH Oxford, . a leader in linguistic training in the region for over 40 years, meticulously organises courses as a language school and conducts exams as a Cambridge English Platinum Centre.“Having become part of the International House World Organisation's global network, we are subject to continuous checks and inspections to ensure we maintain the high standards required to join the vast IH World network.”explained.
In short, a course with the IH Oxford Lecce label is a guarantee of quality and competence. Emanuele Sponsiello also explained the news for the next school yearthe’English Camp for the younger ones who will be busy for two weeks with games and leisure time at a well-equipped beach in the company of qualified tutors and native-speaking teachers for activities entirely in the language; for the older ones Language lab e Chat room where to invest one's time, whether in delving deeper into the course topics or completing exercises, or in engaging in language conversations that improve lexicon and vocabulary.
Alongside the director, the Headteachers of the courses which recognised the commitment of the students who got them this far to receive the examination certificate issued by the University of Cambridge, each for their own level.
A necessary step also that of the Head of Study Holidays, Mariella Padula, which every year plans study holidays abroad, guaranteeing youngsters a unique experience in their language learning journey, within high-level colleges that welcome students from all over the world, for a carefully selected and constructed programme so that contact with compatriots is limited as much as possible to allow for the full application of English.
Delivery of certificates and prize draw
To kick off the certificate handovers, the Course coordinator, Serena Saracino, who, together with the director, called first the younger ones onto the stage, then later the older children and adults, who received the Cambridge certificate, as well as the attendance certificate for the International House courses.
To make it all more zingy, The prize draw which all those present participated in. For the Young Learners category, 5 students won a £500 voucher to spend on a course in the 2025/2026 academic year; for the Teens category, 5 young people each won a voucher for 200 euros to invest in a study holiday to be defined shortly; for adults, one student has won a voucher gifted by International House Manchester for a 2-week course at their overseas location.
A great satisfaction for everyone, for an official event that will become in the following years an event to put in the diary For all IH Oxford Lecce students who complete their language training course with an annexed Cambridge Certification.

È quanto inciso sulla targa argentata svelata questa mattina presso la staff room, l’aula dedicata ai docenti, posta al primo piano dell’International House Oxford di Lecce. L’aula da oggi sarà intitolata a Glynis Thomas, la direttrice didattica che ha seguito, monitorato, supportato i docenti madrelingua della grande famiglia Oxford.
Lacrime e sorrisi nel ricordo di Glynis
Emozione e tanto affetto questa mattina hanno percorso i corridoi della scuola di via Adriatica, da oltre 40 al centro della formazione linguistica di Lecce e provincia, una storia in cui Glynis ha messo un tassello importante, uno dei più importanti grazie alla sua pazienza, alla sua professionalità, al suo sorriso. Ha accompagnato l’Oxford Institute a diventare parte dell’International House World organisation, nel lungo percorso di affiliazione.

Il pensiero di chi l’ha conosciuta e le ha voluto bene
Con la voce rotta dall’emozione il direttore dell’International House Oxford Lecce, Emanuele Sponsiello, ha accolto il personale tutto, gli amici e i docenti che hanno condiviso un percorso professionale e di amicizia con Glynis, ricordando i primi anni di collaborazione nei quali lei è stata docente nella scuola, dove si è fatta subito riconoscere per la dolcezza e l’empatia con gli alunni, in quel ponte ideale che fa dell’insegnamento una luce per le giovani generazioni.
“Glynis per noi è stata un faro – ha affermato Emanuele Sponsiello – e continueremo a lavorare seguendo il suo esempio. Mi è stata accanto in tante scelte fondamentali nella vita della nostra scuola. Il suo impegno al mio fianco per 25 anni e il suo amore per il lavoro qui con noi ci mancheranno profondamente”
Un saluto emozionato e sentito anche quello dell’attuale DOS (director of studies) della scuola, che ha ricordato come con professionalità e amore per il suo lavoro, Glynis gli ha aperto le porte della scuola e dei segreti della didattica perchè tutto scorresse al meglio per docenti e alunni. “E’ stata lei a condurre il nostro colloquio conoscitivo e nel tempo ho potuto apprezzare i suoi sorrisi e la sua dedizione. Rimarrà per sempre nel mio cuore”.
In tanti tra i presenti hanno preso parola per ricordare Glynis Thomas, che ci ha lasciato lo scorso mese di aprile all’età di 57 anni dopo una lunga malattia che mai l’ha fermata dal continuare a dare il suo essenziale contributo per l’IH Oxford Lecce. “Mai una parola di rimprovero, piuttosto sempre moniti di incoraggiamento per fare sempre meglio!”, queste le parole che hanno riecheggiato durante la cerimonia commemorativa.

“25 anni di totale dedizione e professionalità – ha detto con la voce rotta dall’emozione la coordinatrice didattica della Scuola Anna Grazia Buttazzo – Glynis ha contribuito alla storia della Oxford e la sua eredità continuerà a vivere attraverso le persone che l’hanno consociuta”.
Un lungo e forte abbraccio per i figli di Glynis, che oggi sono chiamati ad andare per il mondo ed affrontare la vita con l’assenza più profonda, quella di una madre, ma con la certezza di avere un compito importante: far tesoro dei consigli e di quell’amore che li accompagnerà per sempre, oltre il tempo e l’assenza.
Il 21 ottobre 2024 avevano tagliato il nastro d’avvio i corsi di differenziazione didattica Montessori – Prima Infanzia, Infanzia, Primaria – organizzati dall’ Opera Nazionale Montessori in collaborazione con l’Associazione Culturale Oxford, presso The Mazzini Modugno Institute in Bari. Nel fine settimana del 21 e 22 giugno le corsiste del percorso di Prima Infanzia hanno sostenuto l’esame finale presso la sede di International House Oxford a Lecce.
28 le corsiste che hanno sostenuto l’esame
Ben 28 corsiste sono state valutate dalla Commissione composta dal direttore del Corso, Emanuele Sponsiello, dalla dirigente scolastica dell’ Istituto Mazzini Modugno di Bari, Maria Dentamaro, dalla Coordinatrice scientifica dei corsi e formatrice dell’ONM, Anna Grazia Buttazzo e da Fernanda Bernabei, pedagogista e formatrice dell’Opera Nazionale Montessori, da Arianna Romoli, Psicologa dello sviluppo, dell’educazione e del benessere.
I lavori in esposizione
Le corsiste hanno prodotto i propri lavori a corredo della tesina e tutti sono stati sotto l’occhio attento dei commissari. Tanta emozione per la conclusione di un percorso che, come afferma da sempre la coordinatrice Buttazzo, “non è soltanto un percorso formativo, ma un insegnamento di vita”.
L’Opera Montessori di Roma si dice soddisfatta per il raggiungimento di nuovi obiettivi e si è complimentata con la coordinatrice per il lavoro svolto dall’Associazione Oxford di affiancamento alle corsiste e ai docenti, oltre che di coordinamento per lo svolgimento delle lezioni prima, degli esami dopo.
I corsi di differenziazione didattica Montessori dal 2019 a Lecce
L’Opera Nazionale Montessori, Ente morale con personalità giuridica, accreditato per la Formazione Montessori dal Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca, nel marzo 2019 ha inaugurato a Lecce, in collaborazione con l’Associazione Oxford, ben 3 percorsi formativi: il corso di specializzazione Montessori per educatori della prima infanzia (di 300 ore); il corso di differenziazione didattica Montessori per insegnanti di Scuola dell’Infanzia (di 500 ore) autorizzato dal MIUR con DM. 62 del 18/07/2012 e il corso di differenziazione didattica Montessori per insegnanti di Scuola Primaria (550 ore) autorizzato dal MIUR con DM. 63 del 18/07/2012.
Dal 2019 i percorsi si sono sviluppati con grande soddisfazione dei docenti, delle studentesse e degli organizzatori.
Sono attualmente in corso i percorsi di Scuola dell’Infanzia 3-6 anni e Scuola Primaria 6-11 anni, sempre presso l’Istituto barese Mazzini Modugno.

Quale modo migliore per concludere l’anno scolastico con un pigiama party?
Nella giornata di venerdì 20 giugno, i bambini dell’ultimo anno della scuola dell’infanzia sono stati invitati a partecipare ad un’iniziativa alquanto nuova e divertente.
School like the living room at home
Our school has been transformed into a real-life living room where the children, in their pyjamas, shared a wonderful evening together with their classmates and their teachers.
Appena arrivati i bambini hanno decorato la loro federa (da conservare in ricordo della serata), poi hanno guardato un film, e come in ogni pigiama party che si rispetti, non sono mancate pizze e patatine. Dopo balli e canti, anche un bellissimo momento di lettura in giardino, sotto le stelle.
E come ad ogni bellissimo tramonto corrisponde una nuova alba, ieri sera, la serata dei nostri bambini ha avuto proprio lo stesso sapore: la fine di un ciclo che nasconde un altro meraviglioso inizio.
Il 17 e il 20 giugno, la scuola dell’infanzia ha ospitato le attese Mini Olimpiadi Oxford, due giornate all’insegna dello sport, del divertimento e della condivisione.
L’evento
L’iniziativa sportiva ha coinvolto tutti i bambini in un entusiasmante percorso di attività ispirate ad alcune delle più famose discipline olimpiche.
Tra corse, salti, lanci e percorsi di agilità, i piccoli atleti hanno dato prova di grande energia, spirito di squadra e voglia di mettersi in gioco. Ogni prova è stata pensata per essere accessibile e divertente, stimolando il movimento e la coordinazione, ma anche il rispetto delle regole e il sostegno reciproco.
Contagioso l’entusiasmo dei bambini
Con il sorriso sulle labbra e la voglia di partecipare, i piccoli sportivi hanno reso queste giornate un momento speciale per tutta la comunità scolastica.
Le Mini Olimpiadi Oxford si sono concluse con una simbolica cerimonia di premiazione, dove ogni bambino ha ricevuto un piccola medaglia per l’impegno e la gioia dimostrati.
Un’esperienza indimenticabile che ha unito sport, educazione e tanto divertimento!
Thanks to the generosity of our students' families, on the occasion of the Race Against Hunger Our institute has managed to donate over 3 thousand euros!
The project
It is free and open to primary schools and lower and upper secondary schools, promoted by Action Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organisation that has been operating in development cooperation for over 40 years.
Every year, volunteers tackle the theme of hunger in classrooms, exploring its causes and consequences by focusing on a specific country where the organisation operates.
The project league Sport and solidarity with the aim of making students more responsible by enriching their skills related to Civic Education, as required by the Ministry.
The Race Against Hunger involves students by making them active participants in the learning process, with an innovative model of accountability.
Following registration, each institution receives all the necessary materials to organise the project free of charge, including: a solidarity passport for each registered student; a race bib for each registered student; a fundraising envelope for each registered student.
How does running work?
The boys are committed to running laps and, before the initiative, Families are invited to pledge 1 euro per lap to the student., Later, the student manages to complete 4 laps, for which the family will give him 4 euros. Finally, the student takes the collected donations back to school.
And so it happened in our Institute as well, where primary and lower secondary school children participated to help malnourished children in poorer countries.
A great experience of solidarity which touched the sensibilities not only of the children but also of mothers, fathers, grandparents, and aunts who “rewarded” the effort and made their contribution.

Nei giorni 19 e 20 maggio, la scuola dell’Infanzia dell’Istituto International House Oxford di Lecce si è trasformata in un piccolo mondo fatto di strisce pedonali, segnali colorati e tante curiose domande. È stato realizzato il progetto educativo “Un vigile per amico”, dedicato all’educazione stradale e pensato per accompagnare i più piccoli alla scoperta delle buone regole da seguire quando si è in strada.
Educazione stradale con un ospite speciale
Ospite speciale delle due giornate è stato l’Ispettore Capo Domenico Carrieri della Polizia Locale di Villa Castelli, che ha saputo conquistare subito la simpatia e l’attenzione dei bambini. Con modi gentili e rassicuranti, ha raccontato l’importanza di attraversare sulle strisce, di fermarsi al semaforo rosso e di osservare con attenzione tutto ciò che accade attorno.
Attraverso storie, piccoli giochi, esempi pratici e qualche sorriso, i bambini hanno partecipato con entusiasmo, ponendo domande e condividendo le loro esperienze. Il clima era quello delle grandi occasioni: occhi attenti, mani alzate e tanta voglia di imparare!
A conclusione del progetto, ogni bambino ha ricevuto un attestato di partecipazione e un ciondolino ricordo, come segno di un traguardo importante raggiunto con gioia e impegno.
L’iniziativa è stata accolta con grande entusiasmo da parte di tutti: un momento educativo, affettuoso e divertente, che ha lasciato nei cuori dei bambini un messaggio semplice ma prezioso… Le regole, se spiegate con amore, diventano amiche!
Sunday 25 May 2025 the gates of the palazzi and monuments have once again opened in the historic centre of Lecce for New edition of “Cortili Aperti”.
For the XXX edition of the review showcasing city monuments and historic buildings usually inaccessible to the public because they are privately owned, so many schools organised their pupils to act as tour guides through the streets of ancient Lecce.
Following last year's success, the students were also the protagonists of Years 4 and 5 of Primary School and all classes of the Lower Secondary School at the International House Oxford Institute in Lecce.
Our students have had the opportunity to tell fellow citizens and tourists, in Italian, English and Spanish, about the wonderful Piazza Duomo and some of the most interesting noble palaces in the city: Apostolico Orsini Palace, Andretta Palace, Carrelli Palombi Palace, Ignazio Falconieri Square and the Church of Saint Elizabeth
Furthermore, the THE OXFORD BAND She performed live at the former Convent of Santa Chiara, which is now the site of the Must museum. The lads played classics from the Anglo-Saxon and Latin pop-rock repertoire, to a torrent of applause and enthusiasm.
The visits were plentiful and the experience was beautiful and engaging. Around the courtyards also the Mayor of the city of Lecce, Adriana Poli, who greeted our 'Ciceroni for a day' students through the streets of beautiful Lecce.
The teachers expressed their happiness and satisfaction regarding the students' ease in speaking the language with the numerous tourists, their skill, and the care they put into preparing the tours, not to mention the musical and singing talents they demonstrated.
Finally, the educational director of the IH Oxford Parity School Anna Grazia Buttazzo He wanted to thank everyone, teachers, students and staff, for the commitment shown during the preparation days and on such an emotional day!
The Seda College Dublin has seen the lower secondary school students arrive for the mini stay from 23rd to 30th March 2025.
A unique experience for the first, second and third classes, a study trip that included many activities such as English classes, excursions, and new experiences to share upon returning home and to remember forever.
The English course It took place at Seda College from Monday 24th to Friday 28th March and was structured in such a way as to provide the necessary tools to give the students greater confidence in the language. The knowledge acquired was assessed at the end of the course, and subsequently, a certificate of the level reached was issued.
The remaining time allowed the trip tutors, comprised of lecturers and Oxford staff, to take the pupils to discover the characteristic city of Dublin, and the evocative Glendalough lake near a beautiful monastic site. No visit would be complete without a tour of Cliffs of Moher, one of the best-known and most fascinating tourist attractions in Ireland, namely the impressive cliffs, 214 metres high, plunging into the sea.
Granada
Following the experience of the older children at Oxford, it was the turn of the children from Fourth and fifth Primary landed in Granada in Spain.
Here too, the pupils have been busy with Spanish course which took place at ENFOREX from Tuesday 8th April to Friday 11th April 2025 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. At the end of the course, the students were awarded a certificate for the level they achieved.
Free time was spent Visit to the splendid Cathedral and evocative Albaicín quarter and the Alhambra. Then the stop in Seville and the visit to the Cathedral built on the ancient Almohad mosque, it is the largest cathedral in Spain and one of the largest Gothic churches in the Western world.
An unforgettable experience for the Oxford pupils, who brought home a wealth of knowledge and personal growth.
