The International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers (IHCYLT) It is an in-service training course designed for qualified teachers CELTA (the equivalent) eager to develop their teaching skills in children aged 6 to 17 years.
Awarded by International House and overseen by Cambridge English Language Assessment, the IHCYLT is an internationally recognised certification, characterised by well-known and rigorous quality standards.
The’The main objective of the course is to present the fundamental principles for effective teaching to young learners and to illustrate their practical application in a school environment.. Participants will develop their skills throughout the entire course by engaging in input sessions, exercises, observations, feedback, assessments, and written assignments.
It is important to note that the course will be delivered exclusively online. Please note that, like all our online teacher training courses, this training takes place in real time at 100%. Participants and tutors will be connected as a group for the entire duration of the course, ensuring an interactive and collaborative experience.
During the course, participants will have access to:

30 hours of input sessions that will delve into crucial topics such as child development, language clarity and practice, the use of mother tongue in the classroom, teaching adolescents, lesson planning, and materials selection.

6 hours of observation of experienced teachers and colleagues during lessons for young apprentices.

3 hours of assessed teaching practice, a fundamental element enabling participants to put into practice the theoretical concepts learned during the input sessions.

Over 8 hours dedicated to assisted lesson planning, feedback, and tutorials. The lesson planning phase represents a crucial aspect of the course, during which participants will need to illustrate their thinking behind their lesson designs, demonstrating that they have assimilated the concepts presented during the input sessions. They will be supported in this process by their tutor.

The presentation of two written assignments, which will provide participants with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the fundamental principles of teaching and their ability to apply them to their own professional development.

A portfolio, which represents a collection of activities and completed projects during the course, linked to input sessions and reflections on teaching practice. This portfolio will constitute a valuable document for monitoring and highlighting participants' growth and learning journey throughout the course.

- Frequency:
- Lesson from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- The first 3 days are dedicated exclusively to input sessions, teaching practice will commence on Monday the 17th.
- Requirements
- C1 minimum English level
- teaching qualification (CELTA or equivalent) or considerable classroom teaching experience
- age of majority and high school completed
- Cost: €850* + €2 stamp duty (the price includes IHWO/Cambridge fees for external moderation and the verifiable digital certificate)
