IVYL
The International House Certificate Teaching Young ApprenticesIVYLis a training programme in service designed to prepare English teachers as a foreign language to teach children between the ages of 3 and 6. Successful completion of the course grants the right to obtain IHVYL certification.
This course is designed for whom?

Those who teach or intend to teach English as a foreign language to very young children.

Teachers already working with kindergarten children.

Experienced teachers eager to expand their skills in teaching nursery-aged children.

Teachers who have undertaken preliminary training in teaching English to adults (IHC/CELTA) or children (IH CYLT – International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers).
The course will take place entirely Online. It is important to note that, like all of our online teacher training courses, this programme is delivered entirely live. Aspiring teachers and tutors collaborate as a group in real time for the duration of the course.

Purpose and Structure
The course aims to introduce the principles of teaching Very Young Learners (VYLs) and to help trainees consider, evaluate, and develop their own teaching skills in this area.

They will have the opportunity to learn about and address the needs, realities, and challenges of teaching very young students.

They will practice planning to achieve the goals they have set for themselves

They will discover games and activities aimed at early identification, production and literacy.

They will design and adapt practical learning activities and materials to meet the needs of students and the programme.

They will delve into the different stages of learning and development in young children.

They will discover activities to stimulate and support language development (such as crafts, games, stories and songs) and how to take advantage of the learning opportunities offered by play.

They will analyse what is suitable for different ages and stages of development

They will learn techniques suitable for promoting literacy development at different stages of growth and for fostering reading and writing skills.
The course consists of 10 90-minute sessions, each planned by VYL experts from the International House network. Course participants will complete a written assignment for each module, which will be assessed internally by the course tutors. The final assessment is based on an end-of-course portfolio comprising the assignments completed during the course and a final reflection essay. The portfolios will be assessed externally by the International House World assessment unit at the end of the course.

- Lesson on Friday, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM
- There will be no lessons on March 29th and April 26th.

- C1 minimum English level
- Initial teaching qualification (CELTA or equivalent) o Awaiting Experience teaching children (e.g. nursery school teacher)
